Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was delighted with his side after they toppled Spurs 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday.
Sadio Mane whipped in his second goal vs Tottenham PL2017 |
A double from Senegalese flier Sadio Mane was enough to seal all three points for the Reds and move them ahead of Manchester City into the top four ahead of the Blues' trip to Bournemouth on Monday evening.
It ended a horror run of results for Liverpool, who had beaten only Plymouth in an FA Cup replay since the turn of the year.
"It was how we have to play against Tottenham," Klopp told the BBC. "We had to show a reaction and it was perfect. It was an outstanding performance offensively in the first half, and defensively in the second half.
"We could have scored again. It was difficult to defend against us in the first half, we had four or five players in the area, it was like the early part of the season."
The result left second-placed Spurs nine points off pace-setting Chelsea at the top, ahead of Antonio Conte's side's trip to Burnley on Sunday.
And Mauricio Pochettino questioned his team's title-winning credentials following the defeat.
"We started the game very sloppy," he said. "It is difficult to understand, I am very disappointed in our first-half display. Second half we reached their level but it is really late.
"We are in a position that is up to us. But if you show like today that you cannot cope with the pressure to play to win the league than it is difficult to challenge and fight for the Premier League.
"In the first 45 minutes you saw a team that is not ready to fight for the Premier League."
